All Fall Down

Opening the paper this morning, and reading the headline news put me in mind of the old gent who used to wander round the city with a board on his back stating "THE END IS NIGH"

Gordon Brown, no matter what he is saying in public, must have feelings of despair somewhere under his thick skin. The headline news told me that Jaqui Smith will quit as Home Secretary before the next reshuffle, Children's Minister, Beverley Hughes will leave the government at the reshuffle, and stand down as an MP at the next election. Tom Watson will leave the government at the next reshuffle, but will remain an MP. Former Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt will quit as an MP at the next election, and Labour backbencher David Chaytor will stand down at the next election "in order to clear his name". Alastair Darling (Chancellor) is also expected to be on the move after wrongly claiming taxpayer funded expenses too.
I seriously wonder if Gordon Brown will have enough members left to form a cabinet - let alone a government!

I seem to remember that when Gordon Brown was Chancellor the favourite word around budget time was "prudent."

According to my thesaurus this means careful, cautious, sensible, practical, discreet, wise, far sighted, which is just about the best way of describing what Gordon Brown is not!

It seems now that the wheel has turned full circle, and he is reaping what he has sown. Under his leadership as Chancellor, and under his leadership as PM we have sunk into a morass of debt.
The sooner a General Election comes the better!
