Browns Bunch are really scraping the Bottom of the Barrel this time

Speed Cameras

Just how much lower can this present government stoop in its attempts to try and recoup the money it has lost through years of labour misrule?

There are proposals afoot to cut the levels of compensation for victims of violent crime if they have been found guilty of a minor offence in the five years previous to their assault. Up to five million motorists could be affected by this new ruling because their offences are not deemed “spent” until after five years.

Motoring offender compensation will be cut between 10% – 25% - the same reductions which apply to hardened criminals!

Figures for 2006 show that 857,000 fines averaging £142 were imposed in magistrates courts for driving offences. They include 152,461 for speeding (average fine £121), 26,043 for failing to obey traffic direction (average fine £95), 23,374 for careless driving (average fine £159), 5,820 for parking offence (average fine $65), and 666 for noise nuisance (average fine £66).

Where a murder victim has died the rules apply to the deceased and any applicant for compensation. So the amount paid to the parent of a murdered child will be reduced if the parent has been fined for a motoring offence in the past five years.

If a murder victim has been fined for a motoring offence, the amount paid to his children would be reduced by the same proportion.

In a country where we supposedly have a fair criminal justice system I always thought that once you had paid your fine, or served your period of imprisonment, then you had repaid your debt to society, and that was an end of the matter. It seems that under the current labour proposals we can now be penalised twice for the same offence.

It is claimed that the Criminal Inquiries Authority Business plan hid these changes in its small print. The budget plan shows that the level of compensation for victims of violent crime will fall by £5 million this year, rolling on to a further £15 million next year.

A Ministry of Justice spokesman claimed that the changes were not unfair and insisted that the budget had not been cut! If the budget is costing £20 million less over the next two years how in heavens name can he claim it has not been cut?????

What the motoring offender will lose.

Offence Compensation Deduction
Murder £11,000 £1,650
Rape £11,000 £1,650
Loss of leg £33,000 £4,950
Paraplegia £175,000 £26,250
Brain Injury £175,000- £26,250-
£250.000 £37,500

I don’t see any mention for deductions for those who have committed fraud, but under these proposals I wonder how much an MP would lose for the fraudulent claims they have submitted.
