To try to redress the balance, I have endeavoured to try and find a bit of good news. It’s something that is extremely difficult in this present day and age! However when I opened my paper this morning, on page three (Sorry, it’s not the Sun!) lo and behold there was bit of good news!
It seems that Harry Potter stuntman Mark Cunningham had popped the question to Jane Surtees, and their wedding plans were quite simple – they were going to hop on their motor bike and head for Gretna Green, but that was before Jane scooped £5.7 million on the lottery. They decided that they would have a wedding in Whitby, Jane’s home town. With a bit of money to splash around they opted for a civil ceremony at Whitby’s top rated Cross Butts Restaurant and Stable Rooms.
The couple could have afforded to get married anywhere in the world after Jane’s win, but decided to share their wedding with all their friends and locals in Whitby, so instead of a limo sweeping Jane away to a top hotel, she arrived at the ceremony on a Whitby steam bus called “Old Glory” Since Jane’s win the couple have travelled widely, including to Ethiopia to the capital Addis Ababa, where the new bride presented a cheque for £50,000 plus an onoing donation pledge to the Kindane Mehret Children’s Home, which cares for 120 children.
A further piece of good news is that the couples host at their reception, John Morley, had built up the hotel-restaurant after his family business was devastated by the foot and mouth crisis.
