Corrie - A Million Miles from the ITV Soap Opera

If you travel round the Isle of Arran, sooner or later you will come across the picturesque village of Corrie. Most of the cottages at Corrie are painted white, and are well maintained by their owners/occupiers, who go in for flower baskets and pretty gardens.

Corrie also has the unusual facility of two harbours. The one on the photo above is situated in the centre of the village, and among other things it contains a life size replica Viking Boat.

The other harbour, at the southern end of the village is known as the sandstone quay, because it was from here that sandstone used to be transported from the nearby quarries.

If you look closely at the harbour wall you will not be mistaken if you think you can see some sheep there! The are cast iron ones, so that the craft can be safely secured to them.

One of the curios at Corrie is the Doctor’s bath. This is a bath carved into the sandstone rock on the shore by a Doctor McCredy, who stayed in “Cromla” at the time of Waterloo. He believed that bathing in the sea water had beneficial effects!

The bath is complete with steps down into it!

Fancy a bathe in the refreshing sea water at Corrie?
