Our friendly joiner has just returned from the sun kissed shores of the Canaries, and he rang me tonight to confirm that he will be starting to rip out the old kitchen tomorrow at about 08.30.
(Oh! by the way, for the uninitiated amongst you KROD = Kitchen Rip Out Day)
We are expecting a large builders skip to be arriving about 08.00, although as the skip firm managed to try and deliver it a month early, and then told me that they would deliver it a month later (which just happened to be the Bank Holiday Monday - and when I phoned them to ask if they really did work on Bank Holiday Monday, the lady seemed somewhat surprised when I said that they had said that they would be delivering me a skip on Monday 30th May!) So I await tomorrow morning 08.00 with baited breath!
Most of today has been spent clearing all the cupboards out. We now have a kitchen which is completely devoid of anything! The fridge freezer is sitting in the middle of the kitchen, awaiting transportation to the garage, where it will live until the new fridge freezer is in situ.
A plumber and an electrician are also scheduled to visit sometime tomorrow to work out what will be required of them, then a plasterer will follow up their work before the new kitchen can be fitted. I am reliably informed that these wonderful workmen will be working through the weekend.
Mealtimes (or the contents of the meals) will be a little bit hit and miss, due to the fact that apart from frozen food, which is in the freezer, all other kinds of food has been stowed at the four points of the compass, and it will really be a case of we'll eat what we can find!
Somewhere along the lines we will be reduced to a microwave, a kettle and a toaster so there could be some interesting and different meals about to be launched - anyone for Ovaltine and pears on toast?
